Housing Match is designed to support compliance with applicable Australian privacy requirements, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Housing Match applies privacy-by-design principles: data minimisation (only information relevant to housing, support and compatibility is collected), consent-led sharing, participant control (access, correction and withdrawal), organisation isolation (each provider sees only their own data), and transparent cross-border AI processing.
Housing Match uses a small number of cookies and similar browser storage technologies. This notice explains what we use, why, and how you can control it.
What we use
- Essential cookies — required for authentication, session security and core platform function. These are managed by the hosting platform and cannot be disabled if you wish to log in.
- Preference storage — remembers your interface preferences (such as dismissed banners and your last working position). Stored in your browser's local storage on your device, not transmitted to third parties.
- Our own analytics (no cookies) — Housing Match records aggregated page views and usage events in our own first-party analytics. These records are held on our servers and do not use cookies.
- Google Analytics 4 — loaded only with your consent — Google Analytics is not loaded and sets no cookies unless you accept analytics cookies. If you accept, it measures how the website is used and sets analytics cookies, which under Google's default settings can last up to two years (the property's retention setting is being confirmed). Google does not store full Internet Protocol addresses for Google Analytics 4, and advertising features, demographic reporting and User ID linking are not enabled. If you decline, Google Analytics is never loaded and no Google Analytics cookies are set.
What we do not use
- No advertising or marketing tracking cookies.
- No third-party advertising networks or cross-site trackers.
- AI processing does not set tracking cookies. The AI Assistant chatbot does not use cookies to access participant documents.
Managing cookies
- Your choice is stored in this browser only, as a single first-party setting. It is not sent to Google or to any other third party, and it applies to the browser and device on which you made it; clearing your browser storage will reset it and you will be asked again.
- You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using Cookie preferences in the site footer. Withdrawal removes the Google Analytics library from the page, stops further analytics, and deletes the analytics cookies held in your browser. You can also control or delete cookies through your browser settings.
- Disabling essential cookies will prevent you from logging in.
