Whether an emotional support animal can live in a Supported Independent Living (SIL) home depends on the individual provider, the property, the needs of other residents, and any applicable tenancy or organisational policies.

Housing Match does not make this decision.

If you are searching for SIL housing, it is a good idea to discuss your support animal with the provider as early as possible.

You can:

  1. Include information about your support animal in your Housing Match profile.

  2. Mention it when submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI).

  3. Discuss your requirements directly with the SIL provider during the assessment process.

  4. Ask whether the property has any pet or animal policies that may apply.

  5. Confirm any agreed arrangements before accepting an offer or moving into the property.

Approval for an emotional support animal is determined by the SIL provider and, where relevant, the property owner or managing agent. Providers will consider a range of factors, including the suitability of the property, compatibility with other residents, health and safety considerations, and their own policies.

Housing Match helps connect participants with housing opportunities but does not approve or make decisions regarding emotional support animals or tenancy conditions.
