SIL Finder – Find Supported Independent Living

Search Supported Independent Living vacancies by location, household preferences, accessibility and support needs. Housing Match helps participants, families and support teams compare suitable homes and find an option based on the person – not simply an available room.

Housing Match starts with the person – not the vacancy

An available bedroom is not the same as the right home. Housing Match helps you look beyond the vacancy and consider the factors that make a SIL placement sustainable: support needs, location, lifestyle, household preferences and compatibility with existing housemates. To understand what SIL is and how the funding works before you search, see our Supported Independent Living guide.

How the SIL Finder Works

1. Search by preferred location

Start with the suburb, region or state where you want to live.

2. Review available homes and household information

Each SIL vacancy listing shows the suburb, support ratio, accessibility features, household composition and availability.

3. Compare compatibility, support and living preferences

Assess housemate compatibility, support ratios, lifestyle and household culture before making contact.

4. Contact the provider or request Housing Match assistance

Enquire directly with the provider, or ask Housing Match to help identify suitable options from our network.

Finding More Than an Available Room

Beyond the vacancy itself, these factors help determine whether a SIL home is the right fit.

Location and community access

Proximity to family, transport, shops, parks and community services.

Household composition

Who already lives there and whether the household is a good match for the person.

Housemate compatibility

Lifestyle, communication style, interests and compatibility with existing residents.

Support ratios and staffing arrangements

The right support ratio, overnight model and staffing hours for the participant.

Daily routines and lifestyle

Quiet or social household, daily routines and how the person likes to live.

Accessibility requirements

Physical features that meet mobility, sensory and communication needs.

Pets, smoking and environmental preferences

Pet policies, smoking preferences and environmental factors that affect daily living.

Participant choice and control

The participant’s right to choose their home, their support provider and their household.
